One Design Language

Designing Unity Without Uniformity

Company:

Expedia, Hotels.com, VRBO

Role:

Senior UX Design Manager, Platform & Marketing Channels

Timeline:

Multi-phase initiative | 10+ months | Cross-brand, cross-functional

Challenge

Expedia Group operated across multiple brands, each with its own design language, tone, and set of components.

The result?

  • Inconsistent user experiences

  • Brand confusion

  • Bloated production cycles

  • Fractured collaboration across teams

We needed more than a shared style guide.
We needed a unifying system that could scale, flex, and evolve across every platform, without losing brand identity or speed.

Approach

I co-led the integration of One Design Language (1DL), a foundational design system that aligned structure, language, and visual identity across the organization’s outbound marketing and storefront channels.

Our goal wasn’t just to make things look the same. It was to make them feel consistently Expedia, no matter where users engaged.
